In this role, you will manage a caseload of moderate to high complexity Surety claims from start through settlement and resolution, and within specific authority limits. You will ensure that claims are handled in the most efficient and effective manner to deliver on Zurich’s claims best practices and customer led commitment. You will have an opportunity to develop strong partnerships that include extensive communications and interactions with principals, brokers and other internal business unit contacts.

Primary accountabilities include:

  • Analyzing coverage, liability and damages

  • Participating in mediations and negotiating settlements

  • Drafting coverage and denial letters, underwriter notification of claim issues, etc.

  • Drafting case summary reports in connection with significant reserve increases and trial preparation

  • Directing activities of defense counsel

This is a virtual position so you will have a home-based office.

To optimize the needs of the business and our customers, it is preferred that this position be located in the midwest and/or northeastern States.

You must be able to travel approximately 25% to visit project sites or for other business needs that may arise.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Legal area that includes construction and/or contract surety legal claims issuesAND

  • JD and 5 or more years of legal practice experience in the insurance area

  • Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)

  • Experience in insurance claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment

  • Negotiation experience

  • Customer service experience

  • Microsoft Office experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in construction and/or contract surety claims or insurance defense work

  • Member of the bar

  • Analytical skills

  • Strong math and finance skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Organization and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Experience collaborating across work groups

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.The starting salary range for this position is $96,300.00 - $157,700.00.
